haven't blogged in a while....

I have not blogged this week because the chapter I am covering is Chapter 9 will be presenting it on Monday. I did want to somewhat reflect on the past chapters we have discussed in class because they have been very interesting. I have learned about where my ancestors came from, but I have never had the opportunity to understand what it was like for immigrants at that time. Doing the interview of my family member has also sparked my interest in the immigration experience. I have only really known about my father's side which immigrated mostly from Mexico. I have not been as in touch with my mother's side which is mainly Irish and German. These summaries of the chapters has opened my eyes to the kind of life my family had to live in order to create a future, for me. I had never really understood how terrible Irish people were treated until we covered it in class. To realize that Irish immigrants were considered less valuable than African Americans is crazy because I know how poorly African Americans were treated at this time. I would like to watch a documentary on the people at this time. In reading some of my chapter, there was an autobiography written on a Chinese immigrant. I wonder if I could find a documentary on an Irish immigrant or German immigrant . . .  probably on Netflix. These past chapters have just made me more interested in finding out more about my own family history and to try to connect with my ancestors on a historical level.
